I am tired. There are about 16 things I wanted to write about today, but looking at the list — which included a little pop culture meditation about how I’m not sad for Paris Hilton and how I never again want to hear Kelly Clarkson — I realized I was feeling a tad more cranky than creative. So I’m going to spare us all, save those ideas for next time, and apologize in advance for the incoherence that follows.

Why the crankiness? I don’t think I’ve had a good night’s sleep since April. And as we’ve all heard — remember that Timecover on sleep a few years back, for instance — that’s not so good, especially from a productivity standpoint.

Just a few weeks ago, according to BBC News, a man in Cornwall set out to break the Guinness world record of 264 hours without sleep: “During the record attempt, Mr. Wright noticed his speech becoming incomprehensible at times and colours appearing very bright.” No kidding.

But while Mr. Wright was trying to fend off sleep, I’m hardly able to stay down. Just last night, despite the Cavaliers’ riveting performance (oh, wait…), I was passed out at 10:15 p.m., only to pop back up at 12:45 a.m., just in time for the high(ish)lights. Between working and blogging and sort of having a life — not to mention worrying about Paris and a bit of seasonal affective disorder to boot — my brain can’t seem to justify sleep. Which makes for one unhappy Nadira.

Tough life, right? Hah. Not really, I know. And before I start taking Ambien or a stiff drink before bed (hello, AA), I probably just need to take a vacation. But I know, even among my friends, I’m not alone on this one. In fact, my office is just across the hall from our privacy room, so I’ve got a front-row seat to all the napping that goes on. Maybe it’s getting older, or working harder, or just a matter of our ever more multitasking minds. Are you guys tired, too? And if not, how come? (Seriously, help!)
