Jerry Shereshewsky, Yahoo’s (YHOO) Ambassador Plenipotentiary to Madison Ave. (That was his title, really) has left to helm Grandparents.com as CEO.

At Yahoo, Shereshewsky had long been tasked with convincing old-line marketers to abandon the familiar 30-second TV spot

and full-page print ad, and instead put out their shingle on the Internet (with Yahoo). He had been with Yahoo for nearly nine years, long before Google (GOOG) and Microsoft (MSFT) emerged as big-time threats in the ad business.

In his new gig, Shereshewsky aims to turn a twice-a-week newsletter for grandparents into a social network. He’s Chief Marketing Officer of Laser Partners, which has invested in Grandparents.com, which partly explains his new role.

From the Grandparents.com website (which hasn’t fully launched yet):

Grandparents.com is the place to go to be in the know about being a modern-day grandparent. We offer grandparents grandkid-friendly activities, smart travel ideas, great grandparent gifts, plus fun, creative ways to interact with grandkids and other grandparents. Grandparents.com understands the importance of grandparenting, and is a resource for all things related.

Clickz posted this from his departing letter to colleagues:

Why would I leave Yahoo after almost 9 years and what has been described as “the best job in the business”? It’s quite simple, actually. I could not resist the challenge to help build the premier (not to mention first and only) web business designed to help grandparents do their jobs better… If your brand or business or client could benefit from a relationship with this audience, you should immediately pick up the phone and call me (or email me, or send a carrier pigeon or owl).
