iLounge editor-in-chief Jeremy Horwitz, quoting an unnamed “reliable source” whom he seems to trust, offered 10 new details about the much talked-about Apple (AAPL) tablet Tuesday, the first nine of which are undermined by the last:
“10. It is apparently awaiting a final green light from Steve Jobs; chances of it appearing in the market are believed to be 80% at this point.”
Still, there are some interesting — and remarkably specific — bits of information in the other nine items, among them:
- Apple has created three separate prototypes of the device with screens ranging in size from 7 inches to 10.7 inches
- The tablet, as currently envisioned, comes in two flavors: one with a 3G receiver (like an iPhone), one without (like an iPod touch)
- It runs iPhone OS, not Mac OS, giving it access to all those iPhone apps, but not the Mac’s
- It has roughly 5 or 6 times the resolution of an iPhone screen and 7 times the surface area.
- Apple is planning to announce the tablet on or before January 19, 2010 and start selling it — after a big iPhone-like press build-up — in May or June.
