Instead of selling the Nexus One, the Google Phone ‘gallery ‘ displays Androids from most makers on most carriers in 12 countries.  More are coming.

Re-labeled “Phone Gallery,” Google.com/phone/ now points to an array of phones available on the Android platform.  The former URL was used to sell the Nexus One, but was closed when Google decided to stop shipping the device.

Google (GOOG) now advertises and promotes phones from five different manufacturers and still includes discontinued phones like the Nexus One and the MyTouch.

I personally like the compare feature at the right which allows you to to pick any three phones and get a specification breakdown.

Conspicuously absent among these phones is the Verizon Fascinate.  Perhaps this little blurb from the announcement explains:

All the phones in the gallery include Android Market, Google Search, and other Google Mobile services such as Gmail, Maps, and YouTube. There are tools that make it easy to compare phones side by side: you can filter phones by country, manufacturer, and carrier; view and compare technical specifications and features; and find where each phone is available for sale.

Because Verizon (VZ) saddled that disaster with Bing, and Bing Maps, Google doesn’t recognize it as its own anymore.  I also don’t see the Motorola Backflip which AT&T (T) pulled out Google and added Yahoo (YHOO) search.

Also absent from this list are the Android 1.6 phones from Dell (DELL) and Sony (SNE).  Perhaps when those manufacturers update their phones, Google will show them a little love in their gallery.
