It has to really be news, it is right there in the name of the company!

News (NWS) Corp’s AllThingsD today broke the story that News Corp.’s tablet daily newspaper, called the Daily, would be hitting Google’s (GOOG) Android tablets this Spring.

Before you Android fans go out dancing in the streets however, keep in mind that the Daily missed its internal mark (also reported by News Corp) on the iPad by a few weeks/month, by some accounts, so delivery dates aren’t assured.

The Daily has also been plagued by technical issues, and the lack of what some called compelling content or realistic business model.  For what it is worth, the Daily has acknowledged some of the tech issues and promises to do better.  Apple (AAPL) has reportedly called the Daily team to Cupertino to try to iron out some of the issues on the iPad.

Unfortunately for NewsCorp, building for tablet Android devices won’t be as easy as the iPad.  There are many different sizes and shapes of Android tablets so scaling will be an issue.  The Dell (DELL) Streak 7 has the same resolution as a smartphone while the Motorola (MMI) XOOM has many more pixels than an iPad.  If the iPad is tripping up the Daily tech team, then Android is going to be even more of a challenge.

Rupert Murdoch originally said that the Daily would be an Apple exclusive for 2010 and 2011 so it isn’t quite certain what changed.

All of that aside, The Daily will still be available on those new Android tablets.  Soon – ish.
