Wael Ghonim shares Revolution 2.0 experience on Ted Talks

The Google Executive who helped organize the protests that led to the fall of Hosni Mubarak told the Egyptian story this week.

My takeaway from this inspiring story is that communication on social networks like Twitter, YouTube and Facebook is enabling citizens to cut through government propaganda and at the same time organize online without the fear of government retribution.

Ghonim credited Google (GOOG) with helping to secure his release from Egyptian Authorities. “There were a lot of factors to it,” he said. “One is Google. Google did a lot of work to get me out. They did a massive PR campaign.” He also tweeted a thanks which implied that he was “feeling lucky” that “Google Searched” for him..

As for Ghonim’s job at Google, Google tweeted, “We’re incredibly proud of you, @Ghonim, & of course will welcome you back when you’re ready – cf.”
