Charles “Chief” Burton, founder of Philadelphia Ventures, has passed away from cancer at the age of 65.
Chief was a Wharton grad who spent over 20 years managing Philadelphia Ventures. He also ran Cigna Corp.’s in-hose VC arm, and most recently was a senior investment analyst with Brinker Capital. He also was a big Philadelphia Flyers fan, but we won’t get into that today.
In a statement on its website, Brinker Capital said:
There was a unique, bigger-than-life quality to Chief that words alone cannot capture. He had a style all his own, leaving an indelible mark on all who knew him. He owned the room with his legendary tales and his ability to make people laugh and feel good. His passing is a great loss to the investment industry, Brinker Capital, his family, his many friends and his colleagues. His example and words of wisdom will guide us for years to come.
A memorial service will be held this afternoon at his home in Wilmington, Delaware. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be sent to the Chang – Burton Fund, Gettysburg College, Gettysburg, PA 17325.
