FORTUNE — According to a Nielsen survey released Monday, American teenagers between the ages of 13 and 17 are getting smartphones at a faster rate than any other age group in the U.S.
The highlights of the survey, conducted in July among 20,000-plus mobile phone owners age 13 and older:
- 58% of teenagers now own a smartphone, up from 36% last year
- 74% of 25-34 year olds own one, up from 59% in July 2011
- Overall, 55.5% of mobile phone subscribers in the U.S. Own smartphones, up from 41%
- Google (GOOG) Android phones account for 51.9% of all smartphones and 58.6% of smartphones purchased in the past three months
- Apple (AAPL) iPhones now account for 34.3% of total smartphones and 33% of recent purchases
