FORTUNE — George Emont, a Kentucky venture capitalist focused on the healthcare space, has passed away unexpectedly from a subarachnoid aneurism at the age of 55.
Emont was a co-founder and managing partner with Louisville-based Triathlon Medical Ventures, ans also a managing partner of the Kentucky Seed Capital Fund. He previously ran venture capital activities for Humana (HUM), during which time he led $75 million of investments.
Triathalon colleague John Rice sent out the following message this morning to friends and colleagues:
We are all in shock and sorrow at this loss. George joined Triathlon Medical Ventures at its inception and has been a valued friend and colleague ever since. He was a partner in the truest sense contributing his insight, experience and passion to our mutual endeavor. We were not only a business family but family of friends sharing all of the joys and sorrows of our families lives as well. We have already heard from many of George’s colleagues who have shared personal anecdotes and their sense of extreme loss. George will be sorely missed.
A funeral will be held tomorrow in Louisville. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Polycystic Kidney Disease Foundation, Juvenile Diabetes Foundation or Congregation Adath Israel Brith Shalom.
