ZenPayroll Inc., a San Francisco-based provider of cloud-based payroll solutions, has raised $20 million in Series A funding from General Catalyst Partners and Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers. Ashland Inc. (NYSE: ASH) has agreed to sell its water chemicals group to Clayton, Dubilier & Rice for approximately $1.8 billion. Rival bidders reportedly included Rhone Group and a joint offer from The Blackstone Group and Danaher Corp. Www.ashland.com

IPO’s

A10 Networks Inc., a San Jose, Calif.-based provider of application networking technologies, has filed for a $100 million IPO. It plans to trade on the NYSE under ticker symbol ATEN, with Morgan Stanley, BofA Merrill Lynch and J.P. Morgan serving as lead underwriters. The company reports a $27 million net loss on nearly $142 million in revenue for 2013, compared to a $90 million net loss on $120 million in revenue for 2012. Borderfree Inc., a New York-based provider of ecommerce solutions for retailers, has filed for an $86.25 million IPO. It plans to trade on the Nasdaq under ticker symbol BRDR, with Credit Suisse and RBS Capital Markets serving as lead underwriters. The company reports a $654,000 net loss on around $110 million of 2013 revenue, compared to $192,000 in net income on $81 million in revenue for 2012. GenBand has raised around $40 million in VC funding from firms like Invesco Private Capital, Siemens Venture Capital, Sevin Rosen Funds, HLM Venture Partners, Trellis Partners, TI, Venrock, Star Ventures, Wheatley Partners and Oak Investment Partners.
