FORTUNE — Who runs the world? Beyoncé would say “girls,” and Time agrees.
Our friends at Time just came out with the 2014 Time 100, its annual list of the most influential people in the world. The influencers include women leaders as diverse as the Fed’s Janet Yellen and pop icon Miley Cyrus. In total, this year’s list highlights a record-breaking 41 women.
Featuring Beyoncé on the cover, Time asked Sheryl Sandberg to write about the impact the superstar has had outside the world of music. “Beyoncé doesn’t just sit at the table. She builds a better one,” wrote Sandberg. The Facebook (FB) COO also championed Beyoncé for saying in the past that she’s not bossy, just the boss — a theme Sandberg leans heavily on in her book.

Time also highlighted GM CEO Mary Barr a who told the magazine that her biggest influencers are her parents because they taught her the importance of hard work. Lee Iacocca, the former president of Ford (F) and the former CEO of Chrysler, wrote, “it’s about time someone of Mary Barra’s caliber and experience was appointed to the coveted position of General Motors CEO.” Barra, No. 1 on Coins2Day’s Most Powerful Women global list, is still dealing with the fallout of a massive GM recall that affected 7 million cars, according to a recent count.
