The luxury jeweler posted earnings of $0.96 per share, beating expectations, and raised its guidance for the year. More people are apparently in the market for jewelry, because same-store sales bumped up 3% year-over-year.
2. American Airlines spurns Orbitz
Customers looking for fares on the popular travel booking site will no longer see American Airlines flights listed after the two companies failed to reach an agreement in a dispute over fees, according to reports. US Airways, which recently merged with AA, will also pull its fares from Orbitz on Sept. 1.
3. Tesla getting charged up in China
Earlier this month, Elon Musk settled a copyright dispute in China. Now, it looks like the Chinese government wants to make it easier for him to sell to consumers by spending up to $16 million (100 million yuan) to build charging stations compatible with the electronic vehicles
4. Time Warner Cable is dark
Television watchers and Internet users nationwide are experiencing outages if they use Time Warner Cable. The company tweeted that there was no estimate for when service will be restored, although some reports say Internet service has been largely brought back online.
5. Sin City could be getting a hockey team
Rumors started circulating last night that Las Vegas could soon be getting its own NHL team, with hockey being the first major professional sport to set up shop in the desert town. There is no word about who could be in the ownership group, but there’s obviously plenty of money in Vegas.
