The North American International Auto Show, which started in earnest this morning in Detroit, is heaven for a gearhead, with the newest and the coolest cars making their debuts. A lot of today’s news was centered around a car from General Motors (GM) aimed at the general car-buying public — the Chevy Bolt, an electric concept car which could retail for around $30,000.
While the Bolt is bragging about affordability, other cars fall more into the category of “pipe dream” for most drivers — and that’s where we find Ford’s (F) new GT supercar.

The new supercar will feature a brand new engine capable of achieving more than 600 horsepower. It makes ample use of lightweight materials, such as aluminum and carbon fiber. And the car has a new aerodynamic design to reduce drag when owners take it out on a race track.
And, if we may, it just looks incredibly cool.
The new car goes into production next year, and it joins a growing family of supercars made by Ford. According to a company news release, 12 Ford Performance cars are set to make their debuts by 2020.
