Amazon Studios is bringing critically-acclaimed director Woody Allen on board to write and direct his first television series ever.
The half-hour series will be called “Untitled Woody Allen Project ” and has received a full season order. It will stream exclusively on Prime Instant Video in the U.S., the U.K., and Germany.
“Woody Allen is a visionary creator who has made some of the greatest films of all-time, and it’s an honor to be working with him on his first television series,” said Roy Price, vice president of Amazon Studios. “From ‘Annie Hall’ to ‘Blue Jasmine,’ Woody has been at the creative forefront of American cinema and we couldn’t be more excited to premiere his first TV series.”
Woody Allen added: “I don’t know how I got into this. I have no ideas and I’m not sure where to begin. My guess is that Roy Price will regret this.”
No further details of the series were revealed, though Amazon (AMZN) said casting lineups and additional information will be available in the future.
The announcement comes on the heels of Amazon’s first-ever Golden Globe awards for its original series “Transparent,” starring Jeffrey Tambor. The digital streaming service won for best television comedy or musical, and Tambor took home the award for best actor in the category for his role in the series.
