At a Monday morning Apple event that’s expected to revolve around the much anticipated Apple Watch, the tech giant first took the time to unveil a new version of the MacBook.

Apple (AAPL) announced a new 12-inch MacBook with Retina display. The new laptop is the lightest and thinnest ever made by the company at two pounds and 13.1 mm. “Can you even see it?” CEO Tim Cook joked as he walked out on stage with the MacBook at Monday’s event in San Francisco, Calif.

“We challenged ourselves to reinvent the notebook. And we did it,” Cook said about the new notebook, which will be sold in three colors: silver, “space grey” and gold. The new MacBook with Retina will cost $1,299 for the base price, though a $1,599 model will come with a faster processor and more storage space. The notebook will start shipping April 10.

The MacBook’s screen uses 30% less energy than previous models and Apple promised that the laptop’s battery life will last for an entire day. The laptop’s track pad will also include a new feature called “force click” that offers different responses depending on how hard the user clicks the pad. In an effort to reduce the number of wires needed for the notebook, Apple also said the new MacBook will have only one wire port, which will be used for the power supply as well as for an HDMI connection. (The laptop will connect to the Internet via a Wi-Fi connection.)

Apple is also expected to reveal further details around the release of the Apple Watch, which is expected to go on sale next month. Follow Coins2Day‘s live-blog coverage for more information from Apple’s Monday product event.
