Amazon’s CEO Jeff Bezos is now worth $40 billion, according to Bloomberg News. That means he’s the tenth richest person in the world and has more money than three of the four Walton children, who are heirs to the Wal-Mart (WMT) fortune.

Bezos’ sudden jump in net worth came after Amazon (AMZN) reported earnings last week showing that sales had jumped 15% year-over-year.

The only Walton who is on par with Bezos is Christy Walton, the richest woman in America.

Amazon said its first-quarter revenue grew more than expected as rising sales in North America and its burgeoning cloud-computing services unit offset new business investments.

In addition to reporting earnings last week, the e-commerce company broke out financial details of its secretive cloud computing unit, Amazon Web Services, for the first time, saying revenue jumped almost 50% to $1.57 billion, or about 7% of total revenue. The unit’s operating income grew 8% to $265 million.
