Ride sharing app Uber has its eye on Nokia’s digital mapping business.

Uber is said to have submitted a bid for the business, called Here, worth as much as $3 billion, according to The New York Times, citing multiple anonymous sources.

Finnish telecom Nokia (NOK) said last month that it was considering a sale of Here, a rival to Google Maps. Here provides digital maps used in mobile devices and is a leader in navigation systems for automobiles. If Uber has, indeed, submitted a bid, then the U.S. Startup is likely competing for Here with several automakers. The Times reported that a consortium that includes Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz is also preparing an offer for the unit. A private equity firm has already submitted a bid.

A sale is expected by the end of the month.

Uber has been looking to expand its services beyond its roots as a ride-sharing app, potentially venturing into the delivery or logistics markets. Here could also help with the development of services like Uber Pool, the company’s platform for locating multiple potential riders in a specific area and efficiently pairing them with drivers.
