For reasons known only to itself, Universal Pictures released the first trailer for Aaron Sorkin’s star-crossed Steve Jobs biopic Sunday night, opposite Silicon Valley, Veep and the finale of Mad Men.

Except for nine soundbites (e.g. “The musicians play the instruments, I play the orchestra”) and head shots of few stars (Michael Fassbender as Jobs, Seth Rogen as Woz, Jeff Daniels as John Sculley, Kate Winslet as Joanna Hoffman), it revealed almost nothing.

Yet by Monday morning, the YouTube version had drawn 100,000 hits and generated more than 300 comments, most of them positive. A sampling from the top:

— Can’t wait for this film, it sure will be awesome (Anna M)
— The version Steve deserves (Jakeeboy123456789)
— Yeah but why does this guy look more like Bill Gates than Steve Jobs. (Daniel Rak)
— A little surprised they didn’t cast a black guy as Jobs though. (Ryan Couture)
— You mean “space gray” guy? (Quertysat)
— They should make a movie about a real genius — nikola tesla (YoungShyne123)
— This one trailer was 100 times better than the whole Ashton Kutcher version. (AloneinFiction)
— Aaron Sorkin wrote it, I’m in (Joe Ford)

As an admirer of The West Wing, Newsroom, Moneyball and The Social Network, I’m with Joe Ford.
