Sony: Beyonce is staying on Tidal

Fans of both Beyonce and her husband’s new paid music service Tidal can breathe easy: Sony won’t be pulling her music from the service, the music label said on Monday.

In fact, it won’t pull any of its other artists’ music from the service either, Sony CEO Doug Morris said in a statement. Concerns over Beyonce’s music being available on Tidal, the paid music service her husband Jay-Z unveiled in March, surfaced after Bloomberg Businessweek raised questions last week about Sony’s lack of a deal with the service.

Tidal, whose parent company Aspiro Jay-Z purchased for $56 million, has been able to ink deals with some labels. But others, like Sony, haven’t been so easy to come to an agreement. According to a Rolling Stone source, Sony is simply in the process of negotiating with its partners, and is not singling out Beyonce’s music.

Since its unveiling in March, Tidal has been met with mixed reviews.
