Bill Veghte, executive vice president of Hewlett Packard’s enterprise group, is stepping down, the company said Tuesday. No reason was given for his departure.
Veghte had been spearheading the company’s effort to split into two businesses, one focused on selling data center gear to companies and the other centered on selling printers and personal computers. Veghte, who joined HP after years as a top-ranking Microsoft exec, was seen by some as a likely successor to Meg Whitman as CEO of HP.
“From the moment he arrived at HP (HPQ), Bill has made a huge difference,” said Whitman in a statement. “He brings energy, insight, and leadership to everything he does. I am grateful for all he did to help me lead HP through the turnaround and into the separation. I know Bill will continue to enjoy great success in the years to come.”
HP said that Antonio Neri will officially take over Veghte’s role at the company. Neri was temporarily leading HP’s enterprise group during the time Veghte was working on the company’s plans to separate itself.
Veghte was chosen by HP to replace another HP executive, Dave Donatelli, in 2013 to head the company’s enterprise group. Donatelli, made news recently when he moved over to Oracle where he now reports to Mark Hurd, co-CEO of Oracle, and Donatelli’s former boss at HP.
Art Gilliland, a senior vice president who ran HP’s security business is also leaving the company for a startup, according to Re/Code.
