General Motors Co issued a recall on SUV models due to liftgate malfunctions. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported in a recall notice that “the affected vehicles have gas struts that hold the liftgate up when open. These struts may prematurely wear and the open liftgate may suddenly fall.” As a result, faulty liftgates can injure users.
GM already has 56 reports of injuries, says AP, and the recall affected approximately 690,000 U.S. Vehicles, 36,000 in Canada, and 54,000 in Mexico.
The recalled models are the Buick Enclave from 2008-2012, the Chevrolet Traverse from 2009-2012, the GMC Acadia from 2007-2012 and the Saturn Outlook from 2007-2010.
