• Politics can be hard to watch. Confronted by a tearful Palestinian girl who pleaded for her family to be allowed to stay in Germany, Chancellor Angela Merkel said: "Politics is sometimes hard. Some people will have to go back.” A brutal video of the exchange was all over the Internet yesterday, prompting some observers to call Merkel heartless and others to defend her as honest.
