The German luxury automaker is working with a Portland, Oregon-based tech company whose system can tell the color of stoplights on the road ahead, relaying that information to the driver, CNBC reports. That can help drivers time their approach to avoid standing still at a red light, meaning less frustration and more efficient driving.
The company, Connected Signals, already makes a smartphone app that it claims works in dozens of cities around the world. BMW, however, is integrating the feature directly into its latest dashboard technology. Meanwhile, Apple and Google are rolling out CarPlay and Android Auto, respectively, to make vehicles’ infotainment systems more closely resemble smartphone interfaces.
