Lenovo unveiled its new ThinkPad P50 and P70 today, the first notebook computers to incorporate Intel’s high-performing Xeon processors.

By incorporating these new chips, the company is appealing to professionals who require more power than previous mobile devices have been able to achieve. The ThinkPads have 64GB of RAM and up to 1TB of SSD storage. Lenovo boasts that this is the most memory and storage attained by any notebook computer.

In the company’s news release, Vice President and General Manager Victor Rios said:

We’ve built features into these machines that were previously unachievable in a notebook, making them the most versatile and highest-performing mobile workstations ever. We’re focused on making sure users have the tools necessary to drive innovation. That is why we are expanding our portfolio and raising the standard of mobile workstation performance.

Lenovo states that both the ThinkPad P70 and P50 have been mil-spec tested for maximum durability.

Both machines come with the most advanced features available for notebook computers, including a brand new FLEX Performing Cooling system. Its dual-fan system cools the computer more quietly and more efficiently, enabling consumers to use the machine for much longer periods of time.

All this power comes at a cost, however, with the 15″ P50 weighing in at 5.6 pounds, and the 17″ tipping the scales at a back-straining 7.6 pounds. Prices for the new machines start at $1,599.
