The big update to Microsoft Office will debut in September, at least according to a leaked company document picked up by Winfuture.de and subsequently by several other news sites.
Based on that document, the release date for a test version of Microsoft’s cash cow bundle of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and other applications, is September 22. Microsoft released a version for the Apple (AAPL) Macintosh in July.
The latest release sports a new, brighter interface for those who don’t like the look and feel of the current applications, although there will be more familiar option for those users as well, according to The Verge.
Also coming is a feature that lets co-authors of a document work on it at the same time.
Office applications were long the defacto standard for business users, but the franchise came under fire with lower-cost Google Apps. Microsoft clearly isn’t taking that threat lying down.
Windows 10 (which shipped in July) Office 2016, and SQL Server 2016 are part and parcel of the latest wave of Microsoft releases.
Microsoft had no comment on this story.
