Disney Infinity 3.0, the latest edition of the media giant’s video-game series and the first version to feature Star Wars characters, was released in the U.S. On Sunday. Critics mostly praised it.

Disney Infinity, as a Disney Insider blog post explains, not only has preloaded content, but also lets you design your own levels using the Toy Box feature.

The series originally included only Disney and Pixar characters, but has since expanded to include others. Some gamers have been particularly excited for the Star Wars characters featured in the game, especially with a hotly anticipated new movie due later this year.

Disney Interactive’s vice president of production, John Vignocchi, told CNN that this new edition let the company broaden its appeal to both Star Wars and Disney fans.

So far, most of the feedback from critics seems to be fairly positive.

Polygon gave it an 8/10 rating:

All of Infinity 3.0‘s added elements bring also new technical issues and unwanted holdovers from 2.0…. While 3.0 isn’t without its flaws, the addition of the Toy Box Hub is a big step in the right direction…. The fun found in that day of design was in the teamwork and creativity that [my son] and I shared as we worked to accomplish our goal. The frustration came from some of Disney Infinity’s old design issues and ever expanding aspirations.

Despite some technical issues, Yahoo called this edition the best one yet and gave it 4/5 stars:

The overflowing Toy Box, substantial play sets, and option to download and enjoy user-created content pack this initial offering with, well, infinite play time. Whether you’re a fan of the previous games or a Stars Wars geek wondering what sort of sparks would fly if Darth Vader’s lightsaber clashed with Captain Jack Sparrow’s sword, 3.0 is an easy recommendation.

IGN says the starter pack is “somewhat lighter” than previous editions, but overall the game is enjoyable:

Disney Infinity 3.0 sees the pop culture powerhouse flexing its formidable mega franchise muscles with impressive results. It’s a game that doesn’t just encourage the player to have fun, it insists on it.

The game is available for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Wii U, Xbox 360, and Xbox One.
