Federal Aviation Administration Bans All US Flights To Israel

Giant systems integrator CSC just logged a major cloud contract from the Federal Aviation Authority that could add up to $1 billion over the next decade. And it did so with help from two public cloud rivals—Amazon Web Services and Microsoft(MSFT) as part of its team.

Under the ten-year contract, initially valued at $108 million, the CSC (CSC) team will “consolidate FAA data centers and migrate FAA data and systems to a hybrid cloud environment [using] the CSC Agility Platform cloud management tool,” according to CSC’s announcement Monday. Washington Technology broke the news of the contract late last week.

It is unclear what other cloud companies bid on this business, but in general, these federal contracts are seen as feathers in the cap of cloud providers, all of whom must get the right federal certifications to participate in the bidding process. Amazon (AMZN) won a $600 million contract to build the CIA’s cloud over a lower bid by rival IBM (IBM).

The Obama administration has been pushing Federal agencies to adopt a cloud-first stance with new technology rollouts to consolidate data centers and cut costs.
