The world is back on its axis. New data shows that Boston drivers are the worst in the nation. That news comes a day after other research found that Massachusetts wasn’t even among the 10 worst states for drivers, a finding that surprised many people familiar with the state’s aggressive driving pattern. Here in the commonwealth, after all, “using your blinkah” is behaviorally if not legally, optional.
Allstate’s Best Drivers report calculates the best-and-worst drivers in the U.S. Based on average time between accidents and relative accident rates compared to the national average. Factoring all that in Boston came in 200th out of 200 ranked cities. It traded places with Worcester, 40 miles west, which went from 200th to 199th. Springfield, Mass. Logged in at 196.
Other notable picks: San Francisco was ranked 193 and Los Angeles 191.
Flipping the chart, Allstate (ALL) found the best drivers reside in Kansas City; followed by Brownsville, Texas; Boise, Idaho; Fort Collins, Colo; and Cape Coral, Fla.
So if Massachusetts, according to the earlier Bankrate(RATE) findings, isn’t even close to being the worst state in the nation for drivers and its capital has the worst drivers in the nation, what does that say about them?
(And by “them” I mean “us.”)
