American Airlines flights grounded for almost two hours

American Airlines (AAL) stopped flights at select U.S. Airports for almost two hours Thursday after computer issues wreaked havoc, the company said.

An American Airlines spokesman told Reuters that the issue impacted departing flights out of Dallas-Fort Worth, Chicago O’Hare, and Miami airports.

Many fliers had trouble checking in for their flights, signaling the start of the issue publicly when they took to Twitter (TWTR) to voice their concerns. American Airlines replied that it was working on the technical issues that were impacting several airports.

The Federal Aviation Administration didn’t provide any more details, other than to say the ground stop was due to “airline issues,” and that the delay was expected to last until at least 2:30 p.m. ET. American Airlines announced the end of the ground stop at 2:14 p.m. ET via Twitter.

The world’s largest airline said the technical issues began at noon ET, leading it to stop the takeoffs of certain American Airlines and American Eagle flights from 12:30 p.m. ET. It added that it was working with customers to get them on their way as soon as possible.
