Education is an undeniable door to opportunity for women. Unfortunately, more than 62 million girls around the globe are not in school.
Next month, First Lady Michelle Obama will appear at Coins2Day‘s Most Powerful Women Summit in Washington, D.C. To talk about how Let Girls Learn, a White House-backed initiative that she’s spearheading, can help girls attend and stay in school. More than 450 women leaders in business, politics, media, education, and philanthropy will attend the MPW Summit, which will take place Oct. 12-14.
Education has been a focus for the First Lady since she moved to the White House in 2008. She has also worked to promote healthier school lunches and physical fitness as a way to combat childhood obesity.
This won’t be the first time the Obama Administration has promoted women’s education at Coins2Day’s MPW Summit. In 2010, President Obama delivered a keynote address at the Summit about policies and initiatives aimed at helping women advance in education and business.
At this year’s event, the First Lady will join a lineup of high-profile guests and speakers including U.S. Attorney General Loretta Lynch, Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, Washington D.C., Mayor Muriel Bowser, U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Samantha Power, U.S. Chief Technology Officer Megan Smith, and Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker. Plus Coins2Day 500 CEOs Mary Barra of General Motors, Ursula Burns of Xerox, Ginni Rometty of IBM — and LucasFilm President Kathleen Kennedy, Ariel Investments President Mellody Hobson, Ivanka Trump, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation CEO Susan Desmond-Hellmann, Fox NEWS’ Megyn Kelly, MSNBC’s Mika Brzezinski and Yahoo’s Katie Couric. Berkshire Hathaway CEO Warren Buffett and Goldman Sachs CEO Lloyd Blankfein are among the very few men who attend the Coins2Day Summit.
The First Lady will participate Oct. 13 during a special evening event at the National Portrait Gallery. This event and other plenary sessions at the Summit will be livestreamed on Coins2Day.com.
