Spotify Holds Press Event In New York
NEW YORK, NY - DECEMBER 06: Spotify's founder and CEO Daniel Elk speaks at a Spotify event on December 6, 2012 in New York City. Elk, who started the Swedish music streaming business in 2006, introduced a variety of new additions to the popular music sight. Elk also announced that Spotify now has 5 million paid subscribers, 20 million active users and has paid out a half billion dollars to artist's record labels. The popular music-streaming service Spotify is reportedly coming to Google’s Chromecast, according to 9to5Google.

Chromecast already supports multiple music streaming services, including Google Play Music, Netflix, Pandora. The 9to5Google said it received leaked documents indicating Google is going to announce the Spotify partnership later this month.

Spotify said last year that Chromecast support wouldn’t be coming any time soon: “Hello everyone. Spotify here. We wanted to address a request many of you have made for Chromecast support. In order to keep improving Spotify, we are always testing new things on our different platforms.”

It added, “While we don’t have any plans to launch this in the immediate future, we are looking into it, and will let you know as soon as we have any more information to share.”

For more on Spotify, here’s how its free service could change soon. In June, the company bought a data startup.
