Waiting in line for the latest Apple (AAPL) product is a time-honored tradition in geekdom–and now it’s reached all new levels.
A woman in Sydney, Australia landed upon the genius idea of sending a “telepresence robot” to wait in line for her as a digital representative. The robot, which shows the face of shopper Lucy Kelly, features an iPad screen attached to a long pole on wheels that can be controlled remotely. It’s the same type of robot now being used in offices for remote workers.

“We use them for everything, just to show new technology. It is a cool demonstration of what the future of technology will be,” Kelly told Mashable.
Lucy, the name of the robot, arrived at 5 a.m. Local time to secure the fourth spot in line. So far others have been respectful of Lucy’s position, even taking selfies with the device.
