IPhone users prefer bondage, while Android users like Shemales. Applefanboys are into ‘MILF’ videos, while Samsung owners prefer Bukkake (no, I’m not going to tell you. You can look it up, like I had to).
These are just some of the amazing findings by the website Pornhub, which has commissioned a study from Juniper Research on the sexual preferences of its users, broken down by the operating system of their mobile phone.
The study is rooted (if you’ll pardon the phrase) in hard (ok, ok, I’ll stop soon, I promise) commercial logic (see, I promised didn’t I?): Pornhub, like virtually every other site around, is seeing its traffic migrate to mobile devices faster than you can say ‘extreme gangbang’ (#10 search term for Android users, measured by relative popularity), and the site is presumably anxious to keep on top of (that doesn’t really count, does it?) Changing habits. Five years ago, only 12% of traffic was from mobile devices: today, it’s 63%. Android shades it 32%-31%, in overall terms.
Mind you, even Pornhub doesn’t seem to sure about how to interpret its findings. Android users spend longer on the site and average more page views than iOS users, but does that mean, to borrow PH’s phrase, that Apple owners are “more efficient in getting the job done” or that Android ones have “greater staying power”? (Pornhub doesn’t consider the possibility that they may have different page-loading speeds.) And what to make of the standout figure that iOS tablet account for twice as much traffic as Android ones?
Some findings are more predictable than others: the biggest age bracket for traffic from both system is from 18-24 year-olds, who account for over 36% of the total; males account for the overwhelming bulk (74.5%) of traffic and ‘lesbian’ is the top search term for both systems.
One thing that stands out is that, worldwide, iOS accounts for a disproportionate amount of Pornhub’s traffic: it generates 46% of the total, whereas iOS has a global market share of only 14% in smartphones and 39% in tablets, according to research by IDC and Netmarketshare.
The mind boggles. But one thing is clear: if ever Pornhub wants a new source of revenue, it should just set up a livestream of the meetings where the marketing and strategy committees analyse this stuff.
