The 2016 presidential primaries have possibly been the most social-media driven election to date, with a lot of campaigning and insulting going on through Twitter, with most of it involving the prolific Tweeter that is Donald Trump. Who, though, to the candidates actually follow on Twitter? A story out today from the Associated Press does its best to answer that.
Jeb Bush, for example, follows Trump, but Trump doesn’t follow him back — AP notes that the former reality TV star mostly follows people who he has a direct personal relationship with.
Hilary Clinton and Bernie Sanders, the two leading candidates for the Democratic nomination, both eschew following each other or other rivals for the presidency. They follow plenty of cultural figures, though — Clinton favors singer Katy Perry, comedian Amy Schumer and actor Tom Hanks. Sanders follows director Spike Lee and Belinda Carlisle, the singer from 80s pop group The Go-Gos.
John Kasich, currently the governor of Ohio, follows a huge number of Republicans, including members of Congress and other notables from across the country. He does not follow Donald Trump.
Ben Carson, who has made many headlines talking about his Christian faith, follows former Indianapolis Colts head coach Tony Dungy, who has done the same.
