Amazon Web Services, the retail giant’s web hosting arm, registered on Monday a slew of domain names for use as part of the so-called Internet of things, according to Domain Name Wire, a trade blog. These registrations suggest which products (or at least product names) the company is considering. Given that the move occurred during the company’s big AWS Re:Invent customer conference, at which Amazon typically makes big product statements, it bears examination.

The blog listed five Internet of things-affiliated names that Amazon (AMZN) locked up as it prepares to launch a cloud-based service for IoT this week. The monikers are: amazoninternetofthings.com, amazoniotplatform.com, awsinternetofthings.com, awsiotplatform.com, awsiotservice.com. They don’t exactly roll off the tongue, but they get the point across: The Internet of things is an important part of AWS’s strategy.

Amazon declined to comment about its Internet of things plans.

The divulged domain names are not all about IoT, either. Blogger Andrew Allemann dug up registrations referencing the product names Autograph and QuickSight, among others. (Allemann, I should note, is married to Coins2Day’s Stacey Higginbotham.)

Is Autograph a Docusign competitor? And what is “Snowball”? Feel free to weigh in with your thoughts in the comments or on Twitter.
