Fiat Chrysler (FCA) might discontinue its Dodge Viper SRT, USA Today reports.
The company reached a tentative contract with the United Auto Workers union last week, after FCA workers had rejected a previously proposed deal and threatened a strike against the company. The contract contains a letter stating that production of the sports car will end in 2017, but does not identify a product that would replace it as of yet.
USA Today writes that this does not confirm the end of the Dodge Viper, but it’s unlikely executives will be convinced to continue the vehicle past its tentative end date given that sales have been steadily declining over the years.
FCA sold 503 Vipers through September, which is nearly an 8% drop from last year. In the whole of 2014, the company sold just 760. The car manufacturer had to reduce the price by $15,000 last fall.
The contract is still subject to approval by a majority of the 40,000 FCA workers that the UAW represents. It proposes a $5.3 billion investment plan that would add 2,959 jobs over the next 4 years, but eliminate 2,856 within the same time frame, adding up to a total increase of 103 jobs.
Voting is scheduled to take place next week.
