Dozens of protesters descended upon Airbnb’s headquarters in San Francisco Monday, one day before the city’s residents vote on whether to impose regulations on short-term rentals.
Affordable housing and homelessness activists occupied the company’s headquarters for more than an hour to decry the practice of home-sharing that forms the core of Airbnb’s business model, SF Weekly reports.
“There are over 3,000 homeless children in San Francisco,” said organizer Maria Zamudio. “Airbnb’s practice of turning homes into hotels is exacerbating those conditions.”
The proposal, known as Proposition F, is being put before citizens on Tuesday and would limit the number of annual short-term rentals in the city. Airbnb has spent over $8 million on a campaign to combat the legislation.
