Online dating presents a whole minefield of potential hassles: sitting through a terrible date, dealing with stilted texting conversations and uncomfortable partings of ways, needing to change out of pajamas.
There’s a new app that promises affectionate dates without commitment—no texting, no dressing up, no hard feelings. There will be, however, lots of face-licking. The app, Bark-N’Borrow, connects dog owners with professional dog caregivers as well as dog lovers.
Users create a profile—which is hand-verified by a human before activation, according to The New York Times—and are then free to connect with others on the platform. The idea is to match dogs that could use more attention with community members who crave canine love.
Bark’N’Borrow, created in 2014, is one of the first dog-sharing apps to take off in the sharing economy. In the UK and Ireland, dog-lovers and dog-owners connect on a similar site called BorrowMyDoggy, which began in 2012 and now connects thousands of users.
