Google is unlocking a series of benefits to those who review its Maps product.
In an update to its Local Guides program, Google said users who leave reviews, upload photos, or add information about places they’ve visited will be told about updates to the feature earlier. Frequent users will also be given boosted storage to Google Drive, the product to store files in the cloud, according to The Verge.
Those who reach level four of the tiered rewards system will receive 1 TB of data for Google Drive, which is worth $9.99 per month.
“You can earn points and level up by writing reviews, uploading photos, adding new places, fixing outdated information, and answering simple questions,” according to a Google blog post unveiling the features by Mara Chomsky, the Local Guides community management lead. “Each contribution type is worth one point, so you can earn up to five points per place.”
Users reach level one automatically after signing up, level two after obtaining at least five points, level three after 50 points, level four after 200 points, and level five after 500 points.
“The very top Local Guides [who reach the fifth rank] will become eligible to apply to attend our inaugural summit in 2016, where you’ll be able to meet other top Guides from around the world, explore the Google campus, and get the latest info about Google Maps,” according to the post. “Look out for details early next year.”
Earlier in November, Google launched offline functionality to Google Maps. Also in November, the company added holiday hours to businesses.
