Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced Thursday that he and his wife, Priscilla Chan, are donating $20 million to an initiative to bring speedy Internet to all U.S. Schools. The money is going to Education Super Highway, a nonprofit launched in 2012 to help supply broadband Internet to the 21 million students that currently lack it in their schools.
“In schools, Internet is critical for enabling something we know leads to better results: personalized learning,” Zuckerberg said in a Facebook post announcing the donation. “One day we’ll connect the world and provide personalized learning for all students, and we’ll keep focusing on this until that happens.”
Zuckerberg and Chan have already given $3 million to Education Super Highway back in 2013, according to the New York Times. The campaign for increased Internet access in American classrooms aligns with Zuckerberg’s global campaign to allow people in developing countries to access the Web through his Internet.org initiative.
