It’s one of those fortuitous combinations of talent and product.
The product—still in development—is the latest iteration of the delivery drone that Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos unveiled two years ago on CBS’s 60 Minutes.
The talent is Jeremy Clarkson, frontman for the BBC’s Top Gear—the most widely watched fact-based television show in the world—until he was fired in March for allegedly punching a producer in the face.
After a brief bidding war with Apple (AAPL) last summer, Amazon (AMZN) hired Clarkson, his two co-stars, and a (different) producer to make a new car show for Amazon Prime TV that’s scheduled to air in 2016.
In the meantime, the old Top Gear team made the video attached below, which showed up on YouTube Sunday and by Monday morning had drawn more than 1.4 million views.
It’s a glimpse into what air delivery might look like in the future—price and government regulation permitting—delivered with wit and self-deprecating humor.
