Tech companies across the country are putting out calls for Jedis of every stripe: Java Jedis, HTML Jedis…even Jedi Masters with a focus in product engineering.
If you’ve looked at tech job ads over the past few years, then you already know that such job titles aren’t so out of the ordinary. Along with Jedis, technology firms regularly hire “rock stars,” “wizards” and “prophets.” But if you’re a Star Wars superfan, there’s definitely an added value to having the J-word on your resume.

“Your mission, should you choose to accept it,” this listing reads (way to mix franchises, guys): “Become a hands-on engineer and technical leader, designing and developing automated solutions that help guarantee software quality across a wide range of devices.” Amazon’s streaming video services got a big boost recently, offering Amazon Prime subscribers the ability to add on outside streaming content from Showtime, Starz and others, so you should expect to be a particularly busy Jedi.
Product Engineering Jedi Master (Manager)
Company: Nexsun Electronics, Inc.
Location: Irvine, California
No mere Jedi will do here—electronics manufacturer Nexsun needs a genuine Obi-Wan to help identify gaps in its product line, introduce high-value sales opportunities, and serve as the point person between manufacturer and client. A hooded robe isn’t required, but five years experience managing product lines is.
Software Engineer – Chief Senior Principal Staff Director Ninja Rockstar Guru Jedi Coder
Company: Interana
Location: Menlo Park, California
Woah, get a load of that job title. That’s no accident: At the top of the listing, employer Interana explains that the company is allergic to titles like “senior staff engineer,” instead choosing to look at its employees as dynamic and multi-faceted individuals. However, they’ll still print you a business card that says “Jedi Ninja Guru Awesome Winner Person” if you really want them to.
Jedi Knight, AKA Senior Software Development Engineer
Company: Amazon
Location: Seattle, Washington
“Are you the Yoda of Software Development?” Amazon asks in this listing. Not to nitpick, but shouldn’t it be, “Yoda of Software Development, are you?” If you also think that’s an important distinction to make, then you should definitely give this job a shot—it’s on the coding team behind IMDb, the online movie database owned by Amazon. “Star Wars fan” is actually listed as a preferred qualification here, so this is pretty much your dream job, right? Go forth, young padawan.
