It seems the Force is strong with moviegoers.
The latest Star Wars installment may have just opened a day ago, but by Friday afternoon there are already reports that the film has sold more stubs on movie-ticketing site Fandango than any other movie of 2015, reports Variety. The publication’s sources have said that The Force Awakens has already generated more than $100 million in pre-sale revenue, a claim that analysts from industry expert BoxOffice support.
“The long-awaited film is certainly living up to expectations so far (if not beyond), and looks to be on pace for a record opening day,” reads an analysis written on Friday.Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 currently holds the record for biggest opening day, with $91.1 million in sales. “Not only do we think The Force Awakens will surpass that record, BoxOffice is projecting the film will achieve the first $100 million opening day in domestic history.”
“We are obviously very encouraged by the record-breaking pre-sales for Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” said Disney (DIS) distribution chief Dave Hollis in a statement. “But there are literally millions of tickets available for this weekend, and exhibitors have a lot of flexibility in terms of capacity and increasing the number of shows based on demand.”
