Good morning, Broadsheet readers! We’re still at least four decades from gender parity in the boardroom, Carly Fiorina writes about the death of her daughter, and Martha Stewart is the bearer of bad news. Have a productive Wednesday.

EVERYONE'S TALKING

• 4 decades too many. New research finds that it will take more than 40 years to reach gender parity on corporate boards. To put it another way: Even if there was a way to start filling every single open board seat with a woman, it would still take until 2024 to reach 50-50. Coins2Day

ALSO IN THE HEADLINES

• Advocating for addicts. GOP presidential candidate Carly Fiorina writes about her daughter, Lori, who died at 34 after a long struggle with addiction. Fiorina appeals for increased treatment of addition, saying that criminalizing drug use only worsens the problem. And Fiorina isn't the only candidate whose family has been hurt by drug use: At a forum yesterday, Jeb Bush also discussed his daughter Noelle's fight with addiction.

• A not-so-good thing. Martha Stewart Living and Martha Stewart Weddings laid off "a small percentage" of employees, with Stewart herself breaking the bad news to the affected workers. AdAge

• Making a hit. Laura Ricciardi and Moira Demos, the women behind the hit Netflix series Making a Murderer, talk in this interview about the 10 years they spent on the project. Meanwhile, Ken Kratz, who prosecuted the murder case featured in the series, is accusing Ricciardi and Demos of presenting "misinformation."

• Frightening first. ISIS has executed Ruqia Hassan, who is believed to be the first female citizen journalist killed for reporting inside the group's territory.  The Independent

• A good idea, period. A slew of women-founded companies, including Dear Kate, THINX, and Panty Prop, are trying to create the holy grail of undergarments: underwear that make having your period less of a hassle. Racked

MOVERS AND SHAKERS: Boston Private, a provider of wealth management and private banking services, has hired Prasanna Gopalakrishnan as CIO. Previously, Gopalakrishnan served as CIO of campus services at Harvard University.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT

• Super Smurfettes. In an excerpt from her new book, Jay Newton-Small writes about President Obama’s deputy chiefs of staff Nancy-Ann DeParle and Alyssa Mastromonaco, who jokingly called themselves the White House's Smurfettes—a reference to how often they were the only the women in the room.  Time

• A hit host? Ronda Rousey will host Saturday Night Live on Jan. 23. The UFC superstar will be the third fighter (after boxers Marvelous Marvin Hagler and George Foreman) to do the honors. Yahoo

• Urban pioneers. While farming is still male dominated, there is one niche where women in the industry are increasingly making their own: urban farms. Modern Farmer

• Abby kicks it with Hillary. Soccer legend Abby Wambach and Girls creator Lena Dunham will be in New Hampshire this week to stump for Hillary Clinton. Sentinel Source
