A Chinese-herb product distributor from California is voluntarily recalling a cough syrup because it contains morphine.
The Federal Drug Administration (FDA) announced the recall of the product, sold by Master Herbs, Inc. Of Pomona. Though the syrup listed Compound Camphor—which contains opiate—as one of its ingredients, it made no mention of morphine.
“Consumers using this product may not be aware they are ingesting morphine. The unware ingestion of morphine can lead to life-threatening respiratory depression and death,” according to a statement by the FDA.
Master Herbs distributed the product to Chinese grocery stores in in California, New Jersey, Hawaii, Illinois, Ohio, and Nevada.
