Filing taxes is already a bad enough experience. But for one Uber driver, it turned out to be even more unpleasant after Uber accidentally sent her tax form to several other drivers.
On Monday, Gizmodo reported that several Uber drivers posted on social media that they found tax information that didn’t belong to them in their online accounts. Originally, some drivers assumed that their own information has been sent to other drivers, although Uber confirmed that only one driver had been affected.
“We take partner privacy very seriously and make every effort to ensure the security of personal information,” an Uber spokeswoman told Coins2Day. “Due to a bug in our system, one partner’s 1099 information was viewable by other drivers for a short period of time. The bug has been fixed and we’re deeply sorry. We are in contact with the driver whose information was affected.”
Uber also confirmed that the online tab where the errant tax document appeared has been taken down until the bug is fixed.
As for the affected driver, Uber is working with her to make sure her personal information isn’t compromised and that she has access to credit monitoring tools.
This isn’t the first time Uber driver information has been compromised. In early 2015, it was discovered that the information of about 50,000 Uber drivers was leaked in the previous year on a external public website. Additionally, in October, an update to the driver app had a bug that exposed the license numbers and Social Security numbers of more than 600 drivers.
