Good morning, Broadsheet readers! Valentina (@valzarya) here. Megyn Kelly faces off against Donald Trump, Sara Blakely is returning as the head of Spanx, and we meet the woman who inspired Tina Fey’s new film. Have a great weekend.

EVERYONE'S TALKING

• Kelly schools Trump. Last night's GOP debate was the first face-off between Fox News  host Megyn Kelly and Donald Trump since August, when Trump complained that Kelly was out to get him and later made the controversial comment about "blood coming out of her wherever." This time around, Kelly was no easier an opponent, using Trump's own words against him. She asked Trump to answer for several instances where he changed his positions on key issues within weeks (or days). She also made a point of correcting his statements about Trump University.

ALSO IN THE HEADLINES

• Dame of Dieselgate. Elizabeth Cabraser is the "soft-spoken and bookish" plaintiff's attorney leading the giant consolidated lawsuit against Volkswagen over its diesel-engine emissions. WSJ

• Spanx switcheroo. Spanx CEO Jan Singer has left her role, with company founder Sara Blakely returning to helm the company. Atlanta Business Chronicle

• Minting movies. Niniane Wang, an ex-Googler and former CTO of online design marketplace Minted, has launched Evertoon, a mobile app that allows users to create animated movies on their phones. Coins2Day

• Starring Tina as me.  Kim Barker is the woman on whom Tina Fey's character in her new film, Whiskey Tango Foxtrot,  is based. The former war reporter talks about what it's like to have her life adapted for the big screen. Refinery29

• Gabbing with Gloria. Former Planned Parenthood CEO Gloria Feldt talks about women in leadership, why it’s do-or-die time for the women’s movement, and her hatred of the phrase “having it all.” Coins2Day

MOVERS AND SHAKERS: Bonnie Pan, formerly a top exec at Maker Studios and Yahoo, has been named president of media company Endemol Shine North America’s digital studio and distribution group. Diane Garnick has been named the chief income strategist at financial services provider TIAA.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT

• Black Valley girls.  Three of Slack's black female engineers talk about their experiences working in Silicon Valley. "You feel like you don't belong because you don't see anybody that looks like you," says Erica Baker. Lenny

• Tampon tax takedown.  On Wednesday, five women filed suit against New York State over the tax on tampons, arguing that it is in violation of state law, which excludes medical necessities from sales tax. Marie Claire

• Below average. The Economist released the latest version of its Glass Ceiling Index, which ranks countries by how good it is to be a working woman in each of them. The Scandinavian countries took the top four slots, while the U.S. Placed a disappointing #19 (which was below the OECD average). Economist

• Broad's book deal. Broad City star and co-creator Abbi Jacobson is releasing an illustrated book this fall. The subject? What people carry in their bags (both real and imagined). Entertainment Weekly

QUOTE

This would be a more substantial legacy—something that could protect and save some kids, and to enhance and lift up soccer in a way that it hasn’t before. That was the impetus for saying yes.
