As part of YouTube’s new women’s initiative, which funds and promotes content from female creators, comedy website CollegeHumor unveiled a new video spoofing the hit Broadway musical Hamilton. In “Angela Merkel Rap!,” an actress playing the German Chancellor takes the place of Alexander Hamilton as the show’s protagonist.
In song, the video draws parallels between Hamilton and Merkel’s lives that few in the U.S. Would be familiar with: Both Hamilton and Merkel came from humble beginnings, both were considered outsiders of their respective political circles, both got to where they are because of sheer hard work.
Merkel is not the first female world leader to “rap” with CollegeHumor. In December of last year, First Lady Michelle Obama created a music video in partnership with the site urging America’s youth to go to college.
