New York City is stepping up security in response to the terrorist attacks in Brussels that have left “numerous” dead.
There will be a larger police presence at high-visibility sites, such as the World Trade Center, as well as crowded and transit sites, according to a New York Police Department press release.
Three explosions rocked the Brussels international airport and a subway station in the city on Tuesday morning. At least one of the explosions was set off by a suicide bomber, according to The New York Times. The Brussels airport has been closed, and all subway, tram, and bus travel in the city has been shut down.

“At this time, there is no known indication that the attack has any nexus to New York City,” the NYPD statement said. “We will continue to follow the situation in Belgium closely with the Joint Terrorism Task Force and the FBI and adjust the department’s deployments accordingly.”
