Twentieth Century Fox @foxhas declared April 26 “Alien Day,” and will be releasing a slew of merchandise related to the sci-fi blockbusters that started with Alien.
That includes the high tops worn by Sigourney Weaver in 1986’s Aliens when she reprised her role as Ellen Ripley. According to Quartz, Reebok designed the shoes specifically for the movie and will be releasing them come Alien Day. The date, April 26, refers to LV-426, one of the three moons orbiting the planet Calpamos that was inhabited by aliens. According to Blastr, the day will also include screenings of both Alien and Aliens, a trivia contest, action figures, T-shirts, and various collectibles.
This is the first time the high tops will be available to the public. A mid top version, which will also go on sale for Alien Day, was first offered for a limited run in 1987, marketed as the “Aliens Fighter,” and has been sold a few times in Japan since then. As for this run, there will be just 426 of the high tops selling at $175 apiece. The mid tops are priced lower at $135, and there will be 1,986 pairs.
Reebok’s promotion is similar to “Back to the Future Day,” which took place last October when Nike (NKE) revealed its self-lacing sneakers. Coins2Day reported earlier this month that the company unveiled its new self-lacing HyperAdapt 1.0, and has said it would be available to the public this holiday season.
